When to call Healthline

You can call Healthline 24 hours a day, 7 days a week if:

  • you or your child is feeling unwell – but not sure whether you need to see a doctor
  • you need some urgent advice about a family member or friend who is sick
  • you are on holiday and want to know where the nearest doctor or pharmacy is

Does it cost anything to call Healthline?

No. Phone calls are free from within New Zealand, including from a mobile phone.

Who will you talk to?

Healthline is staffed by experienced registered nurses. They are specialists in assessing and advising over the phone.

Can you talk to someone in your own language?

If you need to talk to someone in your own language, Healthline can usually arrange this using an interpreting service.

What about general advice when your child is not sick?

If you have questions about issues such as parenting, crying, sleeping, your child's growth, development, behaviour, immunisation, breastfeeding, nutrition, oral health, safety or want to know more about the Well Child/Tamariki Ora programme, ring PlunketLine on 0800 933 922. This service is also available 24 hours and is free to callers throughout New Zealand, including from a mobile phone.
