What is ADHD (Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder)?ADHD is a biological disorder which occurs in toddlers, children, adolescents and adults. However, it is most prominent as a problem in primary and intermediate pupils where it may affect three to five out of every 100 children.
There is a range of information on this disorder, from brief fact sheets to more comprehensive booklets and guidelines. There are also support groups. See below.

New Zealand Guidelines for Attention-Deficit / Hyperactivity Disorder
This 63-page book at the Ministry of Health website is aimed at health professionals but will be of interest to those parents who want more detailed information on ADHD. The RACP has produced the following statement (July 2006), available as a pdf document: Medication Management for Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder: A brief guide for parents and non health professionals. The statement concerns medication treatment only; it is not intended to cover the other important issues regarding ADHD such as causes, assessment, related problems or other forms of treatment.
