Method
- Preheat oven to 200 degrees Celsius.
- Bring a large pot of water to the boil. Add macaroni and cook according to packet directions.
- Drain cooked pasta, transfer to a baking dish and set aside.
- Melt margarine in a frying pan over a medium heat.
- Add chopped onion and cook until soft.
- Add the flour and mix well with a wooden spoon. Gradually add milk. Heat gently until thickened, stirring frequently to avoid lumps.
- Remove from the heat and stir through grated cheese.
- Pour the sauce over the cooked pasta.
- Stir in the vegetables and ham (if using), and sprinkle with breadcrumbs.
- Bake for 15 minutes or until golden on top.
