What is COVID-19?

COVID-19 is a viral infection caused by the coronavirus SARS-CoV-2. Coronaviruses are from a large family of viruses that cause illnesses like the common cold.

COVID-19 affects the lungs, airways and other organs. 

COVID-19 is an airborne illness that spreads from person to person. When an infected person breathes, speaks, coughs, sneezes or sings, they may spread particles containing the virus. COVID-19 spreads easily and can make some people very sick. 

Protecting against COVID-19

COVID-19 vaccines are available and free for eligible people aged 6 months and over.
