Urinary tract dilatation (UTD) means part of your baby’s urinary tract looks wider than usual on an ultrasound scan. In most pēpi (babies), it improves before or after birth and does not cause long-term problems.

An inguinal hernia happens when part of the bowel or other tissue pushes through an opening into the groin. It may show up as a lump that comes and goes. If you think your child may have a hernia, see a health professional.

Testicular torsion happens when a testicle, also called a testis, twists and cuts off its own blood supply. It needs urgent treatment. If your child feels sudden pain in a testicle or scrotum, go to the nearest emergency department straight away.

Lichen sclerosus is an uncommon skin condition. It affects males and females of all ages but mainly affects tamariki (children) before puberty.

The vulva includes the outer genitals in females. The skin around the vulva is thin in tamariki (children) and can be easily irritated. Good vulval skin care can help lessen the chance of irritation.

Labial fusion is common in tamariki (children). In most cases, it resolves as your child gets older and requires no treatment.

Vulvovaginitis causes itch and irritation around the vagina and vulva. It is common in children (tamariki).

The foreskin is the loose skin that covers and protects the end of the penis. The foreskin and penis of a baby or child need no special care. A child's foreskin should never be pulled back (retracted) by force.
